    WHAT HAPPENED?

The 20-year-old midfielder suffered a sprained ankle when helping Los Blancos to an impressive 4-0 victory over La Liga title rivals Girona. Bellingham bagged a brace in that contest, but was also forced off just before the hour mark.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

There have been suggestions that he was fortunate to avoid ligament damage, which would have resulted in months on the sidelines, but the expectation is that he will be ready for a recall inside a matter of weeks. Bellingham is hoping that will be the case.

  • WHAT BELLINGHAM SAID

After picking up another knock that will deliver an enforced spell out of action, he wrote on social media: “Back in no time, your messages have kept me positive. Gracias Madridistas!”

Based on the current timeline, Bellingham will sit out the first leg of a Champions League last-16 encounter with RB Leipzig and Liga clashes with Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR BELLINGHAM?

Bellingham will be a big miss for Madrid, as he has registered 20 goals through 29 appearances this season. Los Blancos do, however, boast strength in depth and will hope to keep themselves in contention for domestic and continental glory while their talismanic No.5 watches on from the stands.
