Antoine Griezmann and Atletico Madrid finally reach agreement on star's future amid transfer interest from MLS - with forward set for hefty pay cut next season

According to a report from Relevo, Griezmann is set to prolong his career at the Metropolitano Stadium after Atletico Madrid reached an agreement over the player's future. However, he will remain in Spain on lower wages than he currently earns.

Despite a decline in form in the second half of the season, Atleti have shut down any possibility of Griezmann departing this summer. The club want to offer him a new deal on reduced terms until 2027, with Diego Simeone personally requesting that the club retain the French forward. Simeone remains convinced that Griezmann is a vital figure both on and off the pitch for Los Rojiblancos, and considers him an integral part of the club's plans for next season.

The ex-France international has been heavily linked with a move to Major League Soccer, specifically Los Angeles FC. The 34-year-old himself expressed his desire to play in the States one day, stating: "I have had offers and calls but I have been clear – I want to stay at Atletico. I made a lot of effort to come back and be accepted. I want it to be my last club in Europe."

Griezmann will next be seen in action on Saturday in a La Liga fixture against Las Palmas. Simeone's men are currently in third position in the league, seven points behind league leaders Barcelona. While the Frenchman looks set to stay in Madrid for another season, a future move to MLS remains a strong possibility when his next contract expires.
