Ansa - Daniel Maldini tests positive in a breathalyser test: licence withdrawn after the accident

After spending the evening in Milan following last night's game in Bergamo, where he scored the winning penalty in Cagliari's victory against Atalanta, Maldini was involved in a two-car accident. The crash happened at around 5.15am on Via Caracciolo, on the northern outskirts of the Lombardy capital, and left six people with non-serious injuries: two women aged 20 and 22 and three men aged 19, 20 and 21, as well as Daniel Maldini, who turns 25 in a month.

Three ambulances and a rapid response car attended the scene. Paramedics treated one of the injured at the scene, while they took the other five to hospital, with the Cagliari player taken to Fatebenefratelli in yellow code for further checks.

Local police say Maldini was with three friends. He was driving his Porsche Carrera 4 with a girl and two boys on board when he crashed into a Golf carrying a man and a woman, who were then admitted to the Policlinico in yellow code. The girl who was in the car with the Cagliari player was taken to San Carlo, while all the boys were taken to Fatebenefratelli. Toxicology tests for alcohol and drugs have been ordered.

The footballer's lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, said in a statement that "after a brief assessment under the blue code at the emergency department, Daniel was discharged immediately and returned home, and he is in good health. Daniel is well and has not suffered any kind of injury, let alone a serious one".
