The Lionesses star fired her side ahead in the opening moments of the first half with a stunning first time finish into the top left corner. James had looked sharp throughout the first half but couldn't find the clinical edge in front of goal. However, she quickly put things right following the half-time interval.

Chelsea had been frustrated throughout much of the first half with chances looking few and fair between. James and Fran Kirby had half-chances during the opening moments but Brighton ultimately looked solid across their back four.

It needed a moment of magic to break the deadlock, which is exactly what James did for Emma Hayes and her squad.

The club will now shift their focus on to their final Champions League group stage game against Paris FC on January 30th before facing Everton in their return to Super League action next weekend.
