Although Sesko and Ekitike aren’t the bookies’ favourites, they still have a chance as they’ve joined Manchester United and Liverpool.

Premier League top scorer odds
As expected, the current favourites for the Golden Boot trophy include last season’s winner and favourites. Erling Haaland leads the way because Manchester City are expected to have a much better campaign. He is closely followed by reigning champion, Mo Salah. Alexander Isak is next, and is expected to be a strong contender regardless of whether he stays at Newcastle United or joins Liverpool.
Then there is another new arrival, Viktor Gyokeres, who has a very good recent goal-scoring record. He could be the key player that Arsenal need, and certainly has the potential to score plenty this season. Like with so many others, though, there are concerns over how he’ll adapt to the Premier League.
Other known players like Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins, and Dominic Solanke have also been mentioned, but their chances appear low. Today, we look at whether Sesko and/or Ekitike can challenge as well.
Benjamin Sesko
Sesko has been expected to join the Premier League for a while, and Red Devils fans were happy when his move was confirmed. The 22-year-old has been performing well in recent years and could be a great addition for Ruben Amorim.
The striker won several trophies with RB Salzburg before he joined RB Leipzig. He’s also scored 18 goals in each of the last three seasons. Last season, he hit 26 for club and country, a record that earned him his big-money move to Old Trafford. Everyone at Manchester United will be eager to see him maintain that form.
Interestingly, according to last season’s Bundesliga stats, he also surpassed his xG. The Slovenian scored 13 in the league for Leipzig, which is 3.1 more than his xG suggested. This shows his clinicalness, which Amorim could really use.
The Red Devils do not have a lot of strikers, either. Therefore, Sesko is expected to play a lot. Rasmus Hojlund hasn’t lived up to expectations, and Joshua Zirkzee hasn’t made a big impact. However, Matheus Cunha and Sesko have the potential to be a dangerous attacking pair.
Sesko could be a contender, but that could largely depend on how well the whole United team play. He can’t win it by himself.
Hugo Ekitike
Ekitike may be the best value bet. Liverpool are expected to score a lot of goals this season, and the Frenchman could be a main part of that. He’s already scored at Wembley in the Community Shield, and it’s likely to be the first of many.
The 23-year-old had a 21.7 xG, which is the second highest of any player in the Bundesliga last term. Additionally, he was amongst the division’s top scorers, having scored 15 goals.
Of course, he’ll be striving for a higher conversion rate, but he’ll be surrounded by quality players at Anfield. Slot’s attack, with the likes of Mo Salah, Florian Wirtz, and Cody Gakpo, could be extremely powerful.
It’s still uncertain whether they’ll sign Isak as well, and if they do, then Ekitike’s chances of a Golden Boot would decrease. However, while he remains at St. James’ Park, the former Eintracht Frankfurt man will back himself to challenge Haaland and others. Having scored 22 goals in 2024/25, he has shown that he can score often.
He’s a contributor also, as he got 12 assists in his last campaign. That will be expected of him on Merseyside as well. However, the French international has been signed because of his goal-scoring ability, and he is likely to score often.
Ekitike is definitely a contender. His potential is huge, and he’s already shown that he can score goals in England. He’s one to watch.
