Inter suffered their first Serie A defeat of the season as AC Milan won the Derby della Madonnina 3-1 at San Siro, a result that knocked Cristian Chivu's side off the top of the table.

Manuel Akanji has sent a clear message to his Inter teammates ahead of Saturday’s mouth-watering Derby della Madonnina, warning that they cannot afford another sluggish start against their city rivals AC Milan. The Swiss defender believes the Rossoneri must be forced to earn every opportunity as the two Italian giants prepare for a clash that could have major implications for the title race.

Former striker Hernan Crespo believes Inter remain the team to beat in the Serie A title race this season. However, the Argentine insists city rivals AC Milan have improved drastically under Ruben Amorim and could easily close the gap in the coming weeks.

AC Milan have been dealt a significant injury blow with defender Fikayo Tomori expected to be sidelined for up to a month due to a thigh problem. The English centre-back will crucially miss this weekend's highly anticipated Derby della Madonnina against local rivals Inter alongside several other fixtures.
