And after just two minutes' stoppage time it's all over! Liverpool have been robbed at the death, and must now hope Lyon beat Fiorentina as well as having to win their last two matches. Lyon didn't deserve that equaliser, but Liverpool's defence looked shaky at several points and they should have sealed the game sooner.

That's a body blow for Liverpool, and Lyon have a free kick on the left, but that's safely dealt with.

Suddenly Lyon are up into the Liverpool area! Two dark blue shirts are squabbling over a chance on the corner of the six-yard box! Lisandro pokes past a horribly exposed Reina after a weak flying challenge by Kyrgiakos. GOAL TO LYON!

Babel is delightfully played in by a reverse pass from Benayoun on the left byline. He darts infield, winds up massively and skews it well well wide.

Liverpool haven't let up here, but Fernando Torres is allowed off at last. He looks tired. Ngog comes comes on. Liverpool want a second, and Ngog runs from right to centre onto a through ball! But Lloris dashes out and scythes the ball away from the 'D'.

Torres is still hanging in there, and he wins a free-kick. A second goal for Liverpool would give them the head-to-head advantage over Lyon. Babel's free kick from just forward of the corner of the penalty area on the left skews wide and goes out for a throw-in. That's the other Babel.

Liverpool have to watch their backs when they go forward - Lyon win a free-kick on the right, just outside the area, and Kallstrom hits it with his left. But it curls harmlessly over a big Liverpool wall. Ten minutes left.

Lisandro is away on the break! He pauses, then sidesteps two red shirts, curls the ball left-footed towards Reina's far post - but it floats wide and the Spanish 'keeper had that covered.

Kyrgiakos heads back to Reina, Agger is there too, but Lisandro has nipped behind them both! He darts in and fires straight at Reina, who spreads his hands to pull off a terrific reaction save. That was almost disaster for Liverpool.

Another corner to Liverpool, but Lyon have time to regroup with a break that wins a free-kick. It's a good effort from Bastos' left boot, but that looped too high and Reina catches well under his own bar.

Babel is on for Voronin, and Liverpool pour forward, Torres nicks the ball off the byline, the ball falls to Lucas in space, he fires right-footed from the left of the box and that's a fantastic left-handed save from Lloris! Kuyt with the overhead! Trickles towards goal and hacked clear.

Lisandro and Cissokho have been making headway against Kuyt and Carragher all game, and Reina almost embarrasses himself pursuing a deep, swirling cross. Eventually it's out for a corner. That's too deep too, and headed away by Kuyt.

Liverpool are straight back at Lyon with a high cross from the left that eludes everyone, but then Voronin's bad night continues as he fouls Gomis tracking back. The free kick is well over from Kallstrom.

Poor defending from Liverpool, a long ball bounces straight up the middle with Gomis leading the chase! Reina is brave and heads clear from outside the box just ahead of the onrushing striker.

Cissokho crosses yet again, high to the far post, and it looks briefly very threatening indeed as Ederson rises to meet it, but some belated defensive pressure in the air forces his header over.

Debrecen giving Fiorentina a run for their money in the other game - it's 2-2 there! Liverpool have picked up where they left off at the end of the first half here - but they still haven't scored.

Kuyt and Lucas combine on the right and the ball bounces uncertainly between them and two Lyon defenders, but eventually squirts clear.

Kuyt surges forward and Liverpool win an attacking free-kick. Insua charges down the left, but there's nobody attacking the near post and his low cross comes to nothing.

Dangerous from Liverpool, Benayoun orchestrates a dash into the box from an angle on the right, but Lloris is smartly out to gather on the slide.

The flying Cissokho gets down Lyon's left wing again and fires it in to Ederson, but it's a left-foot volley on the turn with the ball behind him and he blocks it into row Z.

Ederson tumbles into the box, but there's no more than a wave of the arm from him as the game rushes back towards halfway. Replays suggest that should have been a free-kick right on the edge of the Liverpool box!

Gomis gets the second half going for Lyon and the ball is quickly hoofed out of play for a throw-in.

The whistle blows for half-time, and Liverpool grew stronger and stronger as the game went on after a shaky opening. Kuyt and Torres had chances, but it's Voronin who really should have scored when through on goal. Will Liverpool regret that come the end? It's 0-0 at half-time.

Two added minutes to play. Lisandro controls the ball deep on the left wing after a better Voronin free kick on the right is cleared. The ball breaks end-to-end again, but Torres is thwarted. He wins a corner soon after, but nothing comes of it.

Dirk Kuyt fends off two defenders to win a corner kick - time for a goal to round off the half? Voronin fails to beat the first man, then picks out the goalkeeper with a deeper effort moments later. Not justifying his selection so far - could we see Alberto Aquilani later?

Gomis charges forward again, but this time he can't control the through ball down the centre - he was closely attended by Agger there.

Agger strides forward, plays a one-two with Benayoun and crosses from behind Gassana at right back for Lyon, but he pulls it back too far with his left.

Lisandro returns the favour, grabbing Kuyt's shoulder as the Dutchman flies up the right wing for Liverpool, and that's a yellow apiece. Still little between these teams - Liverpool have perhaps had the better clear-cut chances, but Lyon with more attacks.

Lyon look to break out of their half with Gomis, who plays it back to Pjanic and turns to run - but Agger hauls him down and is the first booking of the night.

Kyrgiakos and Gomis collide as the Lyon striker turns and runs into the Greek defenders leg. Both roll around on the floor dramatically, but play is not delayed for long. A couple of minutes later it's Pjanic's turn, and he's still grimacing a few minutes later, but back on his feet.

Suddenly Liverpool clear a free kick and Voronin is clear, one on one with the goalkeeper in the inside right channel! He runs onto the ball in the area and shoots first time - but it's too close to the goalkeeper and ricochets away off Lloris' left leg. He went for placement and placed it poorly there.

Voronin's control lets him down as Liverpool work the ball near the Lyon box, but Reina controls a fierce back-pass from Agger and Liverpool knock the ball around comfortably.

Both teams showing commitment in midfield at the moment. Lyon win a couple of free kicks near the halfway line on either wing, but it's a close contest as we move past the midpoint of the first half.

Liverpool are looking more settled here, as Carragher tries to dart past Cissokho, but the ball runs too far and goes out for a goal kick.

Insua is forward again to meet Kuyt's ball out to the left wing from inside the area, his cross is touched by Benayoun, falls to a stretching Kuyt, whose looping effort in a crowded area is tipped over by Lloris - those two couldn't quite bring that ball under control. Voronin's corner is flicked on, but too far ahead of Torres at the back post. Better from Liverpool.

Cissokho overlapping on the left, fires in a low curling cross that could easily have fallen to a blue-shirt as the Liverpool defence scramble the ball away.

Insua gets forward, deflected cross falls to Torres' left foot on the turn near the penalty spot! His sidefooted effort is weak, straight to the goalkeeper. Not up to his usual standards and the shot is blocked with his legs by Lloris in the Lyon goal.

Lyon look really up for this - three or four very English tackles fly in as Liverpool move forward and Torres looks to attack up the left wing. Makoun hits a speculative effort well over from 30 yards, dead centre.

Lyon stretching Liverpool here, dominating possession and spreading the ball to both wings in a flowing spell of pressure. Kyrgiakos eventually hacks clear.

Dangerous-looking free-kick to Lyon, just to the left of the penalty area after Carragher grapples overzealously at right back, but the ball is booted clear at the near post.

The action's hotting up, Reina gathers a long range effort safely on his knees before Torres' marker leaps higher to head away a cross from the right.

Lyon are not at full-strength either, missing Boumsong, Bodmer and Anderson. Govou is only on the bench tonight.

Rafael Benitez has sprung a big surprise there by selecting Voronin in the Steven Gerrard role behind the front two for Liverpool, while Jamie Carragher fills in at right back. Fernando Torres seeks to defy his hernia once again and Daniel Agger plays despite a back injury, with the Reds missing as many as 6 players from their squad.
