Barcelona have been handed a significant injury scare following their dominant Champions League display against Aston Villa on Tuesday night. Midfield general Rodri was forced off early, leaving Hansi Flick facing a nervous wait ahead of a crucial domestic showdown with Atletico Madrid this weekend.

Sunderland have entered the pursuit of Almeria midfielder Stefan Dzodic as Atletico Madrid step up their efforts to sign the highly rated 21-year-old prospect. The Serbian talent is protected by a €40 million (£33m/$45m) release clause in southern Spain and has also attracted interest from several other English clubs.

Bayern Munich secured a controlled 2-0 victory at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano by successfully navigating Atletico Madrid's compact defensive blocks. Tactical precision in the second half from the visitors proved the difference against Diego Simeone's rigid setup.

Harry Kane wasted a string of chances but still set up the clincher, as Bayern ended a run of two Champions League draws and kept their first clean sheet in eight games.
