With World Cup ambitions growing, the Dominican Republic face Haiti for the first time in 13 years, renewing a rivalry between island neighbors with plenty to prove.
Haiti international Hannes Delcroix produced the most clinical performance of his career on Sunday, netting a remarkable quick-fire hat-trick to inspire Lugano to a dominant 4-0 victory over Lausanne. The former Burnley defender was the unlikely hero as the Swiss Super League leaders extended their advantage at the summit of the table.
Four nations made debuts at the 2026 World Cup, with Cape Verde, Curacao, Jordan and Uzbekistan gracing the grandest stage in international football for the first time. It was the tournament with the most newcomers since 2006 and Cape Verde achieved the feat of ending a 16-year wait for a debutant to reach the knockout stages, before succumbing to Lionel Messi's Argentina in a classic.
