    WHAT HAPPENED?

In recent years, Kaizer Chiefs have had a local technical team to help the foreign coaches.

However, current coach Nasreddine Nabi insisted on working with his own staff after the sacking of Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson respectively.

Arthur Zwane was the former's assistant while Dillon Sheppard worked with the latter.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite getting his wish, Nabi and his technical team members have failed to get the result they desire consistently.

Amakhosi have 15 points from the 10 games they have played in the Premier Soccer League matches, with the players struggling to deliver regularly.

Former Glamour Boys player Siboniso Gaxa believes having a local assistant - like Stuart Baxter who served with legend Doctor Khumalo, might be helpful.

It is something Orlando Pirates have done; they retained Mandla Ncikazi to help Jose Riveiro who had come with Sergio Almenara and most recently, Steve Komphela was kept after Mamelodi Sundowns appointed Miguel Cardoso as their new coach.

    WHAT GAXA SAID

"He [Khumalo] made the team gel man, he's the one who communicated well when Stuart was a bit harsh, you know sometimes coaches [are straightforward]," he told SoccerBeat.

"With 'Mdokies', he would calm us down and say, 'Ah, don't worry gents...' It would be tense at training but when he arrives everyone is calm. I remember there was a time coach Stuart was sick, he couldn't sit on the bench, so Doc had to take over, we played Sundowns and we won.

"Ah my guy, I remember the team talk at half-time, we had the best. We even discussed it after the match, he was truly a Chiefs legend, post his (playing) career, as a coach, he was so attached to Chiefs. He made things truly amazing," Gaxa added.

    WHAT NEXT?

Nabi believes Chiefs are struggling because they lack quality players and has asked the management to add a few in the January transfer window.

After winning their last game in 2024 against Chippa United by a solitary goal, Chiefs hope to get another win on Sunday when they play Cape Town City.
