Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates Preview: Kick-off time, TV channel, Squad news

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates’ quest to take over from defending Nedbank Cup champions Mamelodi Sundowns continues when the old foes collide in a semi-final match at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

An explosive encounter is expected at the Calabash in this high-stakes encounter.

With Chiefs’ chances of securing a ticket to play in Africa next season via the Premier Soccer League campaign appearing slim, the Nedbank Cup presents them with an opportunity to participate in the Caf Confederation Cup.

This Cup is also the only remaining chance for Chiefs to end an eight-year trophy drought and finish the season with at least something in their hands.

But Pirates will not make it easy for them as they are bidding for the second piece of silverware this term after claiming the MTN8 last October.

Saturday’s battle is an affair between teams that are the most successful in this competition, with Amakhosi boasting 13 titles while the Buccaneers have won it eight times.

But it is now a decade since Chiefs last clinched the Nedbank Cup and nine years have passed since the Sea Robbers lifted it.

Both the traditional giants reached the semi-finals in an unconvincing fashion.

Arthur Zwane’s Glamour Boys were not so glamorous in the quarter-finals, where they needed an own goal and a penalty to edge past Royal AM.

But it appeared worse for the Buccaneers, who were stretched to a penalty shootout by semi-professional side Dondol Stars following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Pirates also needed extra time to get past National First Division side Venda Academy FC in the Round of 16.

GOAL brings you all the details on how to watch the Chiefs versus Pirates as well as the team news.
