    WHAT HAPPENED?

Chippa United failed to fulfil their DStv Diski Challenge fixture against Kaizer Chiefs in February, leaving the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee to decide on that match.

The DC has since declared Amakhosi as the winner of that fixture, handing three points that extend their lead at the top of the table, while the Chilli Boys are at the bottom of the log.

The Soweto giants' reserve side now has four points more than second-placed Stellenbosch, with two games remaining before they conclude their season.

That places them on the brink of winning the DDC title for the first time ever.

    WHAT THE PSL DC SAID

"Chippa United were found guilty of failing to honour the fixture against Kaizer Chiefs on the 1st of February 2025," read the DC's ruling.

"The match was awarded to Ksizer Chiefs with a 3-0 scoreline."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The maximum points for Amakhosi come at a time when they are set to end the season without some of their key players.

Chiefs have five players who are with Amajita at the 2025 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, including the league's top goal-scorer, Naledi Hlongwane.

But the latest development might work in their favour, leaving them without feeling the pinch of missing some of their top performers

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Should Chiefs beat struggling Magesi FC in their penultimate match at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday, they would be confirmed as this season's champions.

After that, it would be seen how many Chiefs youngsters would be promoted to the first team and manage to command regular first-team football.
