    WHAT HAPPENED?

Percy Tau was among the players who had a major impact at Al Ahly for the four years he served them.

He was utilised well by the other coaches until Marcel Koller came on board, and eventually fell out with the Bafana Bafana assistant captain.

The 31-year-old's exit was a mistake, according to Al Ahly's former player Mohsen Saleh.

    WHAT SALEH SAID

"After Ricardo Soares' departure, we thought of a replacement, and Marcel Koller had a solid resume, which is why we signed him. However, he also had his own flaws," he opened up to Al Masry Al Youm.

"Marcel Koller was the reason for eliminating players and causing Al Ahly to lose millions due to transfers and players.

"For example, the deals for Percy Tau, Anthony Modeste, Reda Selim, Aliou Dieng, and Christo. In short, Koller's era is the worst for coaches," Saleh concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tau joined Qatar SC in a short-term deal, just to help the team avoid relegation from the Qatari top tier.

Koller's stint at the club did not last; he was fired after failing to help the Red Devils successfully defend their Caf Champions League title following defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final.

Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has since taken over at Al Ahly as the new coach.

    WHAT NEXT?

Tau's contract at Qatar SC was not extended even after helping the team retain the top-tier status.

He is currently a free agent and has expressed his interest in playing in the Premier Soccer League if he gets a good offer.
