    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Simone Inzaghi departed San Siro for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, meaning that a high-profile vacancy in Milan opened up. It was suggested that Mourinho could be lured back into that role before a managerial baton passed to Cristian Chivu.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Mourinho previously guided Inter to treble glory in 2010, during a two-year stint with the Nerazzurri. He is, however, tied to a contract in Turkey with Istanbul-based outfit Fenerbahce - where he has vowed to deliver major silverware.

    WHAT FABRIZIO ROMANO SAID

With the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United seemingly in no rush to leave his current surroundings - having also been linked with 2025 UEFA Nations League winners Portugal - Fabrizio Romano has told DAZN: “Despite swirling rumours, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho is not in discussions with other clubs or national teams following the departure of the Turkish side's sporting director. Roberto Martinez remains at the helm of Portugal and his status keeps a potential Mourinho move to his home nation a rumour.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR JOSE MOURINHO?

Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure at times in Turkey, as match officials and local rivals get under his skin, but the charismatic 62-year-old has never been the type to walk away from a challenge and will give his all to a testing position in domestic football before considering a move into the international arena.
