    City miss out on Morris

Durban City coach Gavin Hunt has explained why he failed to sign Tashreeq Morris from Kaizer Chiefs.

Transfer rumours suggested that Amakhosi were all set to loan out the 31-year-old to City but Hunt has now revealed the move has failed.

The former Moroka Swallows coach also explained why he signed former Orlando Pirates forward Letsie Koapeng who surprisingly dumped Orbit College and scored on debut for the Citizens in the 2-0 win over Siwelele FC on Tuesday.

    What Hunt said

“There was an interest [in Morris], and they [Chiefs] stalled the deal,” Hunt said as per Sportswire.

“I took Letsie and Letsie was available [after he left Orbit College] because we had to make a decision, that is my call. I can’t take Morris tomorrow, but now the budget is gone.

“I have known him for how many years? Seven, eight years, since he was a kid," added the former Chiefs coach.

“I have known what he can do and what he can’t do. It is exactly what we need. We need the ball to go up and hold the ball in the right area, and he can do that for us.”

Hope still exist for City to get Morris

With Chiefs having eight forwards in their squad including Flavio Silva, Glody Lilepo, Ashley du Preez, Etiosa Ighodaro, Khanyisa Mayo and Luke Baartman, they could still be persuaded to jettison Morris whose Amakhosi contract expires at the end of this season.

However, that would mean City will have to act before the PSL transfer window closes on Monday and an loan deal might lower the cost of taking him to Durban.

Morris has been struggling to make Chiefs' matchday squad this season and might be marked as surplus to requirements, making a loan move beneficial to all parties.
