Real Madrid 'open investigation' amid reports of racial abuse towards Lamine Yamal during defeat to Barcelona

Videos on social media have emerged that appear to show the 17-year-old being taunted by some Madrid fans at Santiago Bernabeu during the 4-0 defeat. Now, Los Blancos say they are looking into this matter and condemn all forms of racism, xenophobia or violence in football.

The Madrid statement reads: "Real Madrid strongly condemns any kind of behaviour involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults that a few fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium. Real Madrid has opened an investigation in order to locate and identify the perpetrators of these deplorable and despicable insults so that the appropriate disciplinary and judicial measures can be taken."

Yamal scored in the Madrid rout, as his Barcelona side opened up a six-point lead over their bitter rivals to stay top of La Liga. They also ended the 42-game unbeaten La Liga run of Carlo Ancelotti's team in the process and are now strong favourites to win the league title.

While this Madrid investigation gets underway to find the culprits, Yamal's Barcelona team host Espanyol in their next La Liga match on Sunday, November 3.
