Steve Komphela and Kaizer Motaung - Kaizer ChiefsGallo

There will be a lot of changes at Kaizer Chiefs in the off season, says Kaizer Motaung

Kaizer Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung believes that his side's lack of success in the league this season is due to the fact that they have picked up far too many draws along the way.

Amakhosi were in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title race for most parts of the season, but after registering 12 draws, they eventually fell by the wayside as the title race reached its business end, once again to the disappointment of their many fans.

This has led much criticism to be directed towards the Chiefs technical team in particular, head coach Steve Komphela.

However, Chiefs have stuck by their coach despite growing calls for his head amid their most recent drubbing at the hands of Chippa United.

But while Chiefs have displayed patience, Komphela’s days are certainly numbered, if the chairman’s’ words are anything to go by.

Speaking at the Glamour Boys base in Naturena following a visit by a Fifa delegation to analyse their development structures, Motaung suggested that wholesale changes are on the cards.

"I can't remember us playing so many draws," Motaung was quoted as saying by SowetanLive

"If you convert half of those draws into wins, we would easily win the league," he added.

But the 73-year-old further explained that the club will not be making any drastic decisions before the season ends.

"We are not in a position to make drastic changes now, it won't make sense because the season is finishing," he explained.

"But we will evaluate our position, see our weak points and address all these areas. There will be a lot of changes, not necessarily in the playing staff, but the whole structure," he added.

Motaung also reflected on the recent hammering at the hands of the Chilli Boys, describing it as a ‘painful moment’.

"It was a painful moment. We had clear sitters and should have scored two goals before they scored. Our defence was in disarray,” he concluded.
