Orlando Pirates given boost as Augustine Mulenga deemed fit ahead of SuperSport United clash

Orlando Pirates have announced that Vincent Pule is set to undergo a late fitness test ahead of their clash with SuperSport United on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder was part of the South Africa team that drew 0-0 with Libya in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Durban last weekend.

The Bucs website has since revealed that Pule, who was substituted at half-time, sustained a slight muscle strain ahead of this weekend's clash which will be played at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

A club statement read: "Vincent Pule is due to undergo a late fitness test ahead of the Absa Premiership clash against SuperSport United on Saturday."

"Pule, who recently returned from national team duty where he made his debut in South Africa’s goalless draw against Libya, is carrying a slight muscle strain coming into this match over the weekend," the statement added.

"The Bucs medical team have described his injury as ‘not serious’ however, they still need to assess the 26-year old before clearing him to play against Matsatsantsa," it continued.

The site also revealed that forward Augustine Mulenga, who was with the Zambia national team during the recent Fifa international break, is available for selection.

"Meanwhile, Zambian international Augustine Mulenga has been given the green light and is available for selection," the club further revealed.

"Mulenga returns to full fitness ahead of the clash ironically against the same United side he last played against. The 28-year old has been out of action since injuring his ankle in Pirates’ penalty defeat to United in the MTN8 last month.

Moreover, the club have also confirmed that goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo, attacking midfielder Luvuyo Memela and defender Gladwin Shitolo are still recovering from their respective injuries.

"Shitolo (quad) – Currently working with the strength and conditioning department. Focus this past week has been on cardio," the statement said.

"Khuzwayo (ankle) – Has improved strength and proprioception but still continues to work on strengthening programme," Pirates explained.

"Memela (ankle) – Has recovered from knee injury but recently picked up a knock to the ankle in training. He has mild swelling and experiencing some discomfort but injury is not serious," the statement ended.
