Mpontshane cleared to play for Orlando Pirates, Lorch's season is over

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the return of goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane to full training following his successful recovery from injury.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper is however, expected to miss Wednesday's clash against Ajax Cape Town, the club announced. 

Mpontshane missed Bucs' previous two matches against both Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic.

Prior to his injury, the former Bafana Bafana keeper was Kjell Jonevret's preferred choice ahead of both Brighton Mhlongo and Jackson Mabokgwane. 

He will have to work harder to reclaim his spot in the starting line-up if he wants to play in the remaining matches of the season, including the Nedbank Cup. 

The club also confirmed that Thembinkosi Lorch will not feature this season as he's set to undergo surgery on his shoulder.   

"Winger Thembinkosi Lorch will miss the remaining games of the season as he is due to undergo surgery," the club said in a statement. 

"Lorch, who sustained a shoulder injury in the goalless draw against Highlands Park last month, will go under the knife to repair a joint capsule and ligaments injury," continued the statament. 

"Meanwhile, the Bucs medical team has cleared goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane to resume training with the rest of the team after recovering from his injury. However, the 31-year old looks set to miss out the Absa Premiership clash against Ajax Cape Town tonight," said the statement.
