Midweek PSL Preview: Title race continues

All the 16 Premier Soccer Leaugue (PSL) teams will be in action in midweek as the 2016/17 season draws closer to an end. 

PSL log leaders Bidvest Wits are scheduled to welcome Polokwane City at the Bidvest Stadium looking to revive their hopes of winning their league title.

The Clever Boys are two points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns and they will take on a confident Polokwane side which beat Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend.

At the Lucas Moripe Stadium, Sundowns will be desperate to keep their hopes of defending the league title alive when they host Maritzburg United.

The Brazilians dropped points when they drew with Baroka last week and they will face a stubborn Maritzburg side eager to cement their place in the top eight.

Cape Town City are hoping to keep their slim chances of winning the title alive when they play host to Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Athlone Stadium.

The Citizens, who are five points behind Wits, cannot afford to drop points against Arrows, who defeated Baroka FC over the weekend.

A place in the top eight will be at stake when Orlando Pirates welcome Ajax Cape Town at the Orlando Stadium.

Tenth-placed Bucs are under pressure to finish in the top eight having drawn their last game against Bloemfontein Celtic, who were beaten by eighth-placed Ajax over the weekend.

Platinum Stars will be out to end Kaizer Chiefs' hopes of finishing in the top three when the two sides lock horns at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Chiefs, who are eager to qualify for next year's Caf Confederation Cup by finishing third, are placed fifth - five points behind third-placed Cape Town City.

Chippa United will be desperate for a win when they play host to SuperSport United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Chilli Boys find themselves in the relegation zone ahead of their clash with SuperSport, who are also targeting a top three finish.

Baroka are scheduled to host fellow relegation candidates Highlands Park in a must-win encounter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Bakgaga lost to Arrows over the weekend and they are gunning for a victory against the Lions of the North, who returned to winning ways against Chippa last week Friday.

Lastly, Celtic will face off with their provincial rivals Free State Stars at the Dr. Molemela Stadium with both sides looking  tomove further away from the relegation zone.
