Mayo backs Coetzee to join either Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates

Former Bafana Bafana player Patrick Mayo feels Rivaldo Coetzee should consider a move to either Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates ahead of next season.

Coetzee, who rose to prominence at a very young age at the Urban Warriors, hasn't been a regular since Stanley Menzo replaced Roger de Sa late last year.

“He deserves to be given a chance to play for a big club. For me, looking at it, he deserves to go and even play in Europe because he has got vast experience. They managed to play him at an early age and he managed to perform well under pressure,” Mayo told Goal.

Mamelodi Sundowns were reportedly keen on the centre-back and they're known for spending big on quality players, but Mayo doesn't think he will play regularly under Pitso Mosimane.

“He can play for any big team in the country except Sundowns, because there are so many players who are already playing that position,” Mayo said.

Mayo added that players need to be more careful before making moves.

“Sometimes if you want to make a move, you have to consider how many players are playing that position you are playing before you make the move," he continued.

“The majority of players make mistakes and change teams without checking the number of players playing in their positions. They don’t care, as long as they are going to earn big money,” Mayo concluded.
