Machaka: It is time for Komphela to reward patient Kaizer Chiefs fans with major trophy

Kaizer Chiefs number one fan Masilo Machaka says it is time for the club's head coach Steve Komphela to win a major trophy.

Komphela recently called for Amakhosi fans to rally behind the team as they look to end their trophy drought.

The last time the Soweto giants won a major trophy was in 2015 when they clinched the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title under British tactician Stuart Baxter's guidance.

Chiefs are currently enjoying a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions having booked their place in the 2018 Nedbank Cup Last 16 with a 3-0 win over Lamontville Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium a week ago.

They edged out Cape Town City 1-0 over the weekend to cut down the gap at the top of the PSL standings. The four-time league champions are now four points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.

Speaking to The Citizen, Machaka stated that Chiefs fans have been patient with the former South Africa assistant coach.

“Everything has its time. We have been supporting the team, you know that some people have lost hope in the team, but it look promising at the moment,” Machaka said.

“We have been praying for the team and everyone knows that we haven’t won anything yet, we have been through ups and downs in the past two seasons, it is time for us to smile," the die-hard Amakhosi supporter continued.

“We have been in the same lane for two seasons and we need to shift to another one now," he added.

“Mr Komphela needs to deliver, this is the season for him to deliver, We have the league title and the Nedbank Cup within our reach," Machaka indicated.

"It’s up to coach Komphela to decide which one he would like to deliver to the Kaizer Chiefs family,” he concluded.

Chiefs will host Bloemfontein Celtic in their next league game which is scheduled to be played at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
