Komphela: Paez is not the answer to Kaizer Chiefs' goalscoring problems

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Steve Komphela has heaped praise on new signing Gustavo Paez, saying he has all the attributes of a quality striker.

The Amakhosi mentor however, warned that Paez is not the answer to their goalscoring problems, but part of the solution going into the second half of the season. 

"I think most of the time when we make acquisitions, we put too much pressure on these stars," Komphela told the media on Thursday.  

"He is not the answer, but a solution. There are no answers in football but solutions, because they come in different ways and different forms. So, goalscoring at Chiefs, he could be one of the solutions and not the answer, because the minute we make him the answer, if goals are not coming from him, he hasn't solved the problem.," he said. 

Komphela admitted that Paez, who has played for 11 different teams in the past 11 years, will need time to adapt to the team's style of play, before he can start scoring goals for them. 

"I'd request that we give him a bit of time. Let's be patient. He's got quality. He's got all the attributes we want from a striker, and I hope he settles in the Chiefs' environment. He's a good person, and in a good person, you are likely to find a good player. His movement off the ball, what you'd expect... [his] finishing, what you'd expect, [his ball] control, what you'd expect... only goalscoring. Even in practice matches, he had been doing well. I hope he does even better in competitions," Komphela added.  

The 49-year-old tactician confirmed that Paez will be available for selection when they welcome Free State Stars in the league next week Tuesday. 

"He should be," Komphela said when asked about Paez's availabilty for the Ea Lla Koto game. 

Meanwhile, Paez expressed his delight at joining Amakhosi after spending three weeks under the watchful eye of Komphela.

He added his intention is to become an important player for the club and its supporters for the next two seasons. 

"I'm very happy to be here at a team like Kaizer Chiefs. It's a very big team. I will try to do my best for myself and for the team. I want to be an important player for Chiefs and the supporters," Paez said. 

Paez was officially unveiled at the club's headquarters in Naturena on Thursday morning. He will wear the No.28 shirt.
