Kaizer Chiefs fire Molefi Ntseki and make Arthur Zwane decision after Carling Knockout exit

  • Ntseki took over from Zwane
  • He has struggled to deliver
  • Chiefs make decision on coach

TELL ME MORE: Ntseki was appointed as Chiefs coach at the beginning of the season to deliver silverware with his predecessor Zwane demoted to work under him.

However, the former Bafana Bafana coach has struggled to deliver in all the competitions Amakhosi have been involved in thus far this season.

The Soweto giants are 13 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League and were eliminated from the MTN8 with Pirates eventually winning.

The latest disappointment for the club's fans was in the Carling Knockout whereby the Glamour Boys were eliminated by AmaZulu.

It explains why changes had to be made.

WHAT THE CLUB SAID: "Following a meeting on Monday morning, Molefi Ntseki’s tenure as Head Coach of Kaizer Chiefs has ended amicably by mutual consent," Chiefs confirmed on Monday.

"Given the recent run of disappointing results, the parties agreed that this was the best course of action under the prevailing circumstances."

Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. went on to thank the tactician for the contribution made, "I would like to thank Coach Ntseki for his contribution to the Club since he arrived here, both at the development level and with the senior team.

"We wish him success in his future endeavours."

AND WHAT IS MORE: Chiefs went on to confirm new changes effective immediately, "Cavin Johnson, who recently joined Chiefs as Head of the Youth Development Academy, will take over as the First Team coach on an interim basis.

"Current assistant coach Dillon Sheppard will retain his position under Johnson."

WHAT HAPPENS TO ZWANE? "Assistant Coach, Arthur Zwane will return to his former role within the development structures of the club," Amakhosi clarified.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: The changes are meant to help the team in their bid to get results consistently.

Chiefs can still work their way around in the PSL but winning the league title might be difficult to achieve. However, they can give their best in the Nedbank Cup since it is their only realistic chance of getting silverware this season."

WHAT NEXT: Johnson will not have the luxury of time since the unforgiving Chiefs fans want imminent results.

The former Al Ahly assistant coach needs to motivate the players in his proposal to ensure they start delivering, especially in the PSL.

For Ntseki, he can take his time before deciding whether he is ready to give it a try again with another PSL team.
