Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas receives work permit

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Giovanni Solinas has officially received his work permit, and as a result, he will be sitting on the bench against Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend.

There were concerns that Solinas could watch from the stands when Amakhosi visit the Brazilians in their league opener in Tshwane on Saturday.

However, the club has announced that Solinas' paper work is sorted, and that the mentor is ready to lead the technical team bench.

Solinas joined Amakhosi on a two-year deal on July 14, and while he had part involved in shaping up the team at the training grounds, he couldn't be seen on the bench.

In his absence, Patrick Mabedi was tasked with the responsibility to lead the team.

As things stand, it looks like Mabedi will be Solinas' assitant for the new season although the club is yet to make an official announcement.

Solinas is no stranger to South African football having had two stints at Free State Stars before he returned home to attend to some personal problems.

He will be expected to hit the ground running, especially now that Chiefs are under pressure to end a three-year trophy drought which forced the management to cancel the club's annual awards at the end of last season.

Chiefs finished third on the PSL log, and they will also be campaigning in the Caf Confederation Cup alongside Solinas' former club, Free State Stars, who qualified by virtue of winning the Nedbannk Cup.
