Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Godfrey Walusimbi has revealed why he decided to return to Uganda after turning down a swap deal involving him and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who joined from Chippa United.
However, the Uganda international says he didn’t understand why Amakhosi waited until the January transfer window deadline to release him.
“They told me that because I’m a national team player, I needed to get playing time and therefore I should allow and go to Chippa United on loan,” Walusimbi told the Sunday Monitor.
Although the Soweto giants announced that the full-back left the club because he wanted to go back home, Walusimbi seems to contradict that.
“This was on the last day of transfers. I asked them why they didn’t tell me early enough for me to prepare myself because they knew this was their plan all along,” he added.

Despite an offer made for him to go to the Chilli Boys, the 29-year-old said training alone was the best option than joining the Port Elizabeth-based outfit.
“I just decided to come back home and work alone as I awaited another opportunity. I just wanted to be free,” said the former Gor Mahia player.
Meanwhile, Walusimbi remains confident and is now looking forward to representing the East Africans at the upcoming 2019 Caf African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
“It didn’t break me. I just came back home and continued to work hard and good enough, the (Uganda) coach (Sebastien Desabre) knows my qualities and here I am. I’m hungrier than ever,” he concluded.
