South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan has shed some light on the appointment of a new Bafana Bafana coach.
Bafana has been without a coach since Shakes Mashaba was fired back in December.
Jordaan, who is currently in Gabon working with Caf president Issa Hayatou in an advisory capacity, has expressed his desire to have a new man at the helm sooner rather than later.
The Safa boss also revealed that money will not be a stumbling block when appointing a new coach.
“We must urgently get a coach,”Jordaan told SunSport.
“People need success. We must make sure Bafana are a great success. Contracts and money are subject to negotiation," he added.
Jordaan stated that a number of top coaches had declared their interest in the job and according to reports by SunSport, Carlos Quieroz, Paulo Duarte, Milutin Sredejovic and Herve Renard are all front runners in the race for South African football’s top job.
“We need someone with a credible record at club and national team level. A great number of highly qualified coaches have shown interest in this job,” Jordaan said.
“We have been paying good salaries and can’t be deterred from appointing a good coach because of money.”
The former Port Elizabeth mayor also vehemently denied that Safa has been in discussions with any coach over the Bafana Bafana vacancy but acknowledged that CVs have been accepted.
“CVs have been submitted but we have not discussed any of them. We cannot be seen talking to coaches who are still under contract," he said.
“We have not spoken to any of the coaches but many have shown interest in coaching South Africa,” Jordaan concluded.
