Baroka release goalkeeper Virgil Vries

Baroka FC have announced that they have parted ways with goalkeeper Virgil Vries ahead of next season. 

Vries joined Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele at the start of the 2017/18 from Maritzburg United. 

He became the club's No.1 as soon as he arrived at the Polokwane-based outfit, making 22 appearances in all competitions under different coaches.

However, he conceded a whopping 29 goals and kept just five clean sheets in the process. 

Whether or not his sometimes below-par performances was the reason the club decided to let him remains unclear at this stage. 

Baroka took to their social media platforms to confirm the departure of Vries from the club with immediate effective. 

Baroka, who survived relegation on the final day of the season, have already made changes to their playing personnel ahead of what is expected to be a tough season for the majority of the PSL teams. 

Lewis Macha is one high-profile player who has already left the club, while they they have signed no less than nine new players. 

The Polokwane-based also appointed a new head coach in former Kaizer Chiefs man, Wedson Nyirenda following the departure of MacDonald Makhubedu towards the end of last season. 

Doctor Khumalo took charge of the first team in the last few games of the season, but he's expected to return to his technical advisory role come the start of the new campaign.
