    WHAT HAPPENED?

Aden McCarthy was injured during Kaizer Chiefs' Premier Soccer League clash with Richards Bay.

It was a setback for the Amakhosi central defender, who was in top form this season.

The player who came through Chiefs' development ranks has given a timeline on his return from injury as Nasreddine Nabi's men prepare to take on log leaders Sekhukhune United in their first match after the current FIFA international break.

McCarthy also explains how the pre-season camp in the Netherlands was instrumental for the high-flying Soweto giants.

    WHAT MCCARTHY SAID

"I’m resuming training with the team this week, and I should be back very soon," McCarthy said as per KickOff.
"The Netherlands pre-season tour was amazing. It brought a different side of us out. The mentality, the spirit among the guys.

"I feel like we have gelled more. It has been shown at the start of our journey this season, so everything is positive."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

McCarthy is arguably Chiefs' biggest revelation so far this season, rising from being a reserve side player to an important member of the first team.

He has won two Man of the Match awards in the three PSL games he has been involved in.

The 21-year-old has managed to have the more experienced Zitha Kwinika benched, as coach Nabi prefers him.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MCCARTHY?

Chiefs will not be in action this weekend due to the FIFA international break, and they will also be inactive the following weekend to make way for the MTN8 final.

That gives McCarthy more time to recover, and if he regains full fitness for the Sekhukhune game, it would be interesting to see if he will have Kwinika benched again.
