    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns opened their 2025 Fifa Club World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Ulsan HD on Wednesday.

Surprisingly, the Brazilians took to the field donning the 2024/25 kit despite having a new design being launched last week.

Fans were expecting to see Masandawana in their new Puma x KidSuper kit being used by all teams at this tournament being sponsored by the German sports apparel and accessories manufacturer.

WHY SUNDOWNS SNUBBED THE NEW KIT

Renowned football kit commentators, Footy Headlines, have suggested why Sundowns might not have used the latest Puma edition.

The Brazilians are said not to have been impressed by the new design and the website further claims that Manchester City have opted to only wear the away kit version and Palmeiras demanded alterations to the design before finally agreeing to wear the jerseys.

There has, however, been no official confirmation of Footy Headlines' claims.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

With Sundowns having rejected the latest offering, it is to be seen if their relationship with the technical sponsors will remain fruitful.

Interestingly, the Brazilians launched the Puma x KidSuper kit with their senior players like captain Themba Zwane and his deputy Ronwen Williams participating in photoshoots, but have now gone on to decline wearing it in their opening match of the tournament.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

The Tshwane giants face Borussia Dortmund in their next group game on Saturday.

It remains to be seen if they will continue using the old kit or opt to wear the newly-launched KidSuper one.

Either way, the club will be looking to build on their opening victory over Ulsan to reach their goal of the Round of 16.
