    Hope of comeback

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze believes the Premier Soccer League side will reach the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite being numerically disadvantaged, Kabuscorp went ahead to register a 1-0 win over Amakhosi during the first leg of the first preliminary round action in Angola.

To Kaze, all is not lost, as he believes the Soweto giants are capable of overturning the loss and proceeding to the next round.

    What Chiefs need to do

“We know we can hurt them; even today (Saturday), we had a couple of opportunities to get inside the box and score. We just need to be more clinical when we play them in the second leg,” Kaze told the media.

"Those kinds of situations we spoke about, we didn’t want the opponent getting into positions where they could cross, or where we gave away fouls cheaply around the box,” he added.

  • Stunned and record broken

Upon returning to the continental competition, Chiefs were shocked by their rivals. The defeat came just as Amakhosi are generally enjoying a fine run in the PSL.

After registering a five-match unbeaten run, Amakhosi lost against Sekhukhune United in their last league encounter. The result in Angola means that Amakhosi have now registered back-to-back losses this season.

This could be something to worry about for Chiefs fans who had become ambitious given the results their team gave them before the defeats.

This was also the first defeat Chiefs suffered against an Angolan opponent.

    Nabi's uncertainty

The defeat came just after the club confirmed that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is not with the team.

It is understood that the Tunisian coach and the club are set to part ways, and what is going on now is just a formal way of ending their association.

This is the second time this season that Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef were in charge of the club with Nabi's absence.

When the 2025/26 season began, the former Young Africans head coach was not available due to a family matter.

    When will Chiefs welcome Kabuscorp?

Amakhosi will first fulfil a league assignment against Marumo Gallants on September 24 before the Confederation Cup return action.

Kabuscorp will travel to South Africa for the crucial showdown at the FNB on September 27.
