    WHAT HAPPENED?

Pitso Mosimane was given the mandate to coach Iran heavyweights Esteghlal FC a couple of days ago.

The celebrated South African coach has not started his reign as anticipated. He fell 3-1 against Kheybar Khorramabad before another 2-0 defeat to Tractor on Thursday, both in the Persian Gulf Pro League.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This season, Esteghlal have lost five league games, and managed just two wins and as many losses which has put them 12th on the Persian Gulf Pro League's table.

It is an unwanted run from the two-time AFC Champions League winners which explains why the fans are concerned.

However, in his statement to the supporters, the club's boss Dr. Farshid Samiiei has exuded confidence the team will start delivering soon.

    WHAT SAMIIEI SAID

"I apologise to all the fans of Esteghlal Club of Iran for the recent poor results that are in no way acceptable, on behalf of myself and the Esteghlal FC team. The only way out of this situation is to support the cadres and the players of the team as they continue their journey," he said in a statement.

"Sorry again for the recent results. I ask that you continue to support the cadres and players for the days of success and victory to come. The ability of the current technical staff, the ability of players who have proven their technical abilities before, and the ambition of my colleagues.

"Most importantly, your presence and support. Dear fans, it is Esteghlal that if you continue to be like a mountain behind this team, it will rise again, relying on God and your support. Independence stays with you and makes greatness," Samiiei concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mosimane has to start delivering as soon as possible since that is why he was hired by the team.

It might not be well with him if he takes too long to get positive results across all competitions. From the above statement, it is obvious the board has faith in the 60-year-old to help the club get back to the top.
