  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates are set to host Kaizer Chiefs in the first PSL's Soweto Derby between the two on Saturday.

While Bucs have been steadily rising across all competitions, Amakhosi have been blowing hot and cold across all competitions.

It explains why Chiefs academy product Junior Khanye has predicted trouble for the former team at the FNB Stadium.

He argues Pirates are oiled well which will pose a massive threat against their old rivals.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

“The thing about Pirates is that they are strong in attack, and I don’t think Chiefs will be able to deal with the threat they possess. There has been inconsistency in terms of how Chiefs have been lining up, especially at the back and that can cost them against Pirates," he told SNL24.

"Sometimes [Njabulo] Blom is playing on the right and the other times it is [Reeve] Frosler there. I think [Bradley] Cross hasn’t been as solid on the left and there have been a lot of schoolboy mistakes in the defense overall.

"[Inacio] Miguel has been making some unnecessary mistakes and I think he is going to get a red card in this game. I’ve got nothing against the guy but what I have noticed about how he plays is that he tends to get too emotional, and with this going to be his first Soweto derby, he will be very lucky not to get a red card because Pirates are going to put pressure on him,” Khanye continued.

“Chiefs are going into this game being the team that is under too much pressure, and it is going to be difficult for them. Pirates have been pressing teams and that’s how they have managed to get it right most of the time, and I see Chiefs struggling to contain them with their back four. Pirates will play with a lot of flair, and they will attack Chiefs."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Prior to the big match, Chiefs have made some impressive signings, especially in the attacking department.

Tashreeq Morris, Glody Lilepo and Thabo Cele have been brought on board by the Amakhosi management.

Pirates did not sign any player despite the many competitions they are taking part in - Nedbank Cup, the Premier Soccer League and the Caf Champions League.

The Amakhosi trio might make their debut this weekend if they convince coach Nasreddien Nabi that they are a match-fit.
