Orlando Pirates' chances of claiming the Premier Soccer League title from Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a massive setback after a shock 2-0 loss against Marumo Gallants on Saturday evening.

As opposed to the initial meeting that ended 8-1 in favour of the Buccaneers, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa looked determined to get a result at the Free State Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

They won a free-kick in a good area after a quarter hour.

Sekela Sithole played in a beautiful set piece that Malawian Gabadinho Mhango did well to get past his marker before giving Sipho Chaine no chance from close range.

Chaine pulled two massive saves that kept his team in the game as Bucs continued chasing for an equaliser and potential winner.

But it got worse for the visitors in the 75th minute when Thalente Mbatha, unfortunately, turned the ball into his own net as he tried

After the loss, Pirates are now 18 points behind Sundowns who beat Kaizer Chiefs earlier in the day to hit 54 points from 20 games.

Gallants are 13th on the table with 19 points after playing 19 games as well.

The winger gave his best, initiating some good attacks for Gallants.

    THE BIG LOSER

The Orlando Pirates fans were hoping to see their team get maximum points to continue piling pressure on the runaway leaders Sundowns.

However, they left the pitch frustrated and pessimistic about their team's chances of ending the PSL crown drought.
