‘New story with new characters’ claim from Ted Lasso creator as Jason Sudeikis drives ‘creativity’ of hit Apple TV+ show into Season 4

Rumours regarding a return to the small screen for AFC Richmond have been raging for some time, with it claimed that pre-production on the hit Apple TV+ show could begin in early 2025. There has been no official word on when filming will start or a release date that a global fanbase is patiently waiting on.

Leading members of the Ted Lasso cast and crew have spoken of their excitement at stepping back into the shoes of popular characters, with Sudeikis – as one of the writers – said to be excited about portraying an affable American coach once more.

Ted Lasso has become his show, with Bill Lawrence – who figured prominently in the production of series one and two – admitting that the award-winning series could be given another refresh. He has told Collider: “With Ted Lasso, I always have to make sure I highlight Jason Sudeikis because he had a vision for the show and it's such a huge position of pride for me now, looking back, to have been involved with the crafting and figuring out what that show was.

“Him and I ran it the first year, we ran it together the second year, and the third year, he was doing it. You can always tell a new story with new characters in this streaming world. He’s driving it creatively. But man, I’m excited to even still peripherally be a part of it.”

Several Ted Lasso stars are said to have already seen contract options taken up, with many familiar faces expected to return. It remains to be seen what Sudeikis has planned, with the potential there for the show to be taken in any number of directions.
