    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have been delivering domestically in the most recent years.

While Masandawana have won the last seven Premier Soccer League titles, Bucs have been winning domestic Cups.

Since the 2022-23 season, they have won five.

It has not been well for Kaizer Chiefs, who have gone a decade without major silverware.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Coach Nasreddine Nabi was brought in at the beginning of the season to help rebuild the Soweto giants.

Things have not been as seamless as anticipated, especially in the Premier Soccer League, where they are struggling to finish in the top eight.

However, recently Amakhosi beat Mamelodi Sundowns to reach the Nedbank Cup final, where they will play Pirates.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana player Mandla Masango believes the future looks bright not only for Amakhosi but Bafana Bafana.

    WHAT MASANGO SAID

"I think this win will most definitely do a world of wonders for these guys because now, you know, when you're in a big game, it gives you that motivation factor that you can build momentum from,” he said as quoted by SABC Sport.

“Now everyone is confident that we can be able to win, we beat Sundowns, why not beat Chippa. So I think this was a massive boost to morale for the team, I won't lie.

"Now, it's just a matter of being consistent, that's all," Masango added.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

Masango has further explained why having Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns competing at the highest level will boost Bafana Bafana.

"It was a good thing that Chiefs managed to get into the final because now we need more teams in the African competitions. As you can see, Pirates and Sundowns, they're doing well, and it really boosts the national team in terms of having that experience and competing at that level, you know,” he continued.

“So, it's good and I hope also Chiefs get to that level where they compete in Africa as well. We are very much optimistic that the trophy drought will come to an end, that's what we're looking forward to, they have a chance, it's just 90 minutes to rewrite everything to erase all the 10 years.

“So, this is the opportunity for them, it's there for the taking," Masango concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

The Glamour Boys have to give their best and ensure they beat Chippa United this weekend in the Premier Soccer League.

However, the prize will be the Nedbank Cup crown that will end Amakhosi's decade-long trophy drought.

They will then work hard to have an impact in the Caf Confederation Cup.
