Kaizer Chiefs forwards Khanyisa Mayo and Pule Mmodi react to bad blood claims between them after infamous offside incident

  • Fears of a fallout

Khanyisa Mayo placed himself into an offside position to finish Pule Mmodi's goal-bound effort in a PSL match between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu recently.

With Amakhosi leading 1-0, the blunder by Mayo denied them an opportunity to extend their lead and win the match as Usuthu managed to hit back for a 1-1 draw.

Mmodi appeared incensed by Mayo having a touch to the ball amid fears that the two players could have a fallout which might drag on.

However, the Amakhosi attackers have come out to clear the air on the incident.

“We spoke about it even after the game, I gave him a call and we spoke about it – and he said no don’t worry, these things happen, it’s done, let’s focus on what is next…”

'I never took it personally' - Mmodi

“As he said, this is football it’s been a long time I know Mayo, he’s a striker – who likes to score goals," said Mmodi.
“I never took it personally to ask why would you do that? But everyone makes mistakes, nobody is perfect, life goes on, because the next day I will need him.”
