Kaizer Chiefs are enduring a difficult season and are almost assured to end the term empty-handed again, extending their trophy drought to nine years.The Soweto giants are currently eighth on the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/premier-soccer-league/yv73ms6v1995b5wny16jcfi3" target="_blank">Premier Soccer League</a> table and they face what appears to be a difficult task to end the season in the top-four.Midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe admits their performances have been a concern but feels they can still qualify to play in Africa next season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

“Obviously we are concerned,” Sithebe told <a href="https://www.kaizerchiefs.com/news/sithebe-aiming-build-strong-comeback" target="_blank">Chiefs’ website.</a>“Especially when we look at some of the games where we made a lot of opportunities but the ball just wasn’t going into the net.“As players, we need to pull up our socks and keep working as hard as we can in the remaining games,” added the Anakhposi midfielder.“We want to first secure our place in the top eight, but we want more than that. We still want to qualify for a Caf competition next season.”

WHAT SITHEBE SAID

Having missed out on qualifying for Africa through winning the PSL title and after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup, as well as their chances of securing second spot being slim, Chiefs now have limited opportunities to play continental football next season.The option left for them is a narrow route of finishing third and qualifying for the Caf Confederation Cup.But that would take some valiant effort in their remaining seven PSL games.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Soweto giants will push to pick themselves up with a trip to Richards Bay for Sunday's league match at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium.They come up against the desperate Natal Rich Boyz who are keen on getting out of the relegation zone and that could make life difficult for Amkhosi.
