Kaizer Chiefs advised to consider signing ex-TS Galaxy and Orlando Pirates forward Zakhele Lepasa - 'It is a good gamble for me'

Kaizer Chiefs have signed just one forward, Flavio Silva, during the current transfer window, and he has offered little hope of ending Amakhosi's attacking woes.

This is after he struggled in the friendly matches he has been involved in so far.

Chiefs continue being linked with former AmaZulu striker Etiosa Ighodaro, and ex-Amakhosi development coach Farouk Khan has made a suggestion for Naereddine Nabi to consider two free agents in what is said to make business sense.

"The first question I'll ask is what is the coach's game model, tactical approach because we've seen it in the past, they wanted a big guy upfront, they signed [Ranga] Chivaviro, it didn't work out, now they are talking about Ighodaro, we don't know," Khan said as per Soccer Laduma. 

"If you look at [Zakhele] Lepasa, he's more of a false nine coming from deep, but he was injured most of last season; he didn't play one game for the complete duration. But we know Hugo Broos saw some quality, that's why he chose him for Bafana setup. 

"I think if he's on a free, it's a good gamble for me. Whether he will start it will depend on his match fitness and how he is able to gel, and I think the coach is the only one who can answer," added the renowned development coach. 

"[Dzenan] Zajmovic at Galaxy showed a lot of goal-scoring prowess; he's good in the air, good on the feet, and good at decision-making. If they can get him as soon as possible and [Tashreeq] Morris and other guys, put them on loan, you can't have a heavy strike force." 

Lepasa is a free agent after being released by Pirates but might take time to regain match fitness for a club like Chiefs looking for a quick fix.

Zajmovic, on the other hand, scored 12 goals in all competitions for TS Galaxy last season and has already issued a come-get-me plea to the PSL's traditional giants. 

A few weeks ago, Amakhosi looked close to announcing the signing of Ighodaro following the leaking of what was purported to be a picture from a photo shoot with the club.

Amakhosi will return to competitive football next weekend when they visit Stellenbosch for their first Premier Soccer League match of the season next Sunday.

They would be hoping their struggles during pre-season will not manifest themselves in the new season.
