Jamie Vardy is back! Leicester striker rescues point for Foxes as Tottenham suffer frustrating start to Premier League season

Leicester City seemed out of sorts on their first game back in the Premier League as Tottenham Hotspur were quick out of the blocks. Ange Postecoglou's men dominated the possession and created a truckload of chances in the first half but just lacked the finishing touch. However, they did go ahead when a whipped ball from James Maddison was met by the charging Pedro Porro, who found the net to open the scoring for Spurs.

While the second half started very similarly, a quick counter from Leicester City saw Vardy equalise for the Foxes from their first shot on target and level the game on the night. The goal helped Leicester kick into gear as they immediately started threatening Guglielmo Vicario's goal.

However, the game then saw a break in play after Spurs' Rodrigo Bentancur appeared to suffer a serious head injury as he contested for a header. As medical personnel raced onto the pitch, the midfielder seemed to be unconscious. He was later spotted being given oxygen at the King Power before being taken off on a stretcher and replaced by Archie Gray.

Following the break in play, Postecoglou's side gained superiority once again but failed to test Mads Hermansen's goal, with Richarlison wasting a late chance, as the game finished all square.

Maddison did not have the best summer as he was omitted from Gareth Southgate's 26-man England squad that travelled to Germany for Euro 2024. However, the rest seemed to have benefitted the 27-year-old as he pulled the strings for Tottenham throughout the game. However, wastefulness was the name yet again as Spurs failed to convert their chances.

Steve Cooper's side seemed all out of sorts throughout the game barring a few pockets of the game and the new Leicester City boss' tactics did not help his players out in the slightest as they remained very passive through the game. However, thanks to Spurs' wastefulness and Vardy's nose for goal, the Foxes managed to take home a point. However, one thing will be clear, Cooper has a lot of work to do.

Tottenham will now have some time to reflect on what exactly went wrong at the King Power Stadium as they take on Everton at home on Saturday, August 24. Meanwhile, Leicester will travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.
