Brandon Petersen started the season as the preferred goalkeeper but Itumeleng Khune took over for some time as Kaizer Chiefs' number-one goalkeeper before losing his spot in the team after <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/kaizer-chiefs-take-stern-disciplinary-action-against-goalkeeper-itumeleng-khune/blt8dfc45ed95ac97d4" target="_blank">he was suspended by the club.</a>For some time now, the 36-year-old's future has been a subject of speculation with retirement coined as a possibility. But Khune himself says he is still keen on playing although he speaks glowingly of Bafana Bafana reserve goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma.

WHAT HAPPENED?

“The next chapter is to work hard, get back in the team, stay fit and challenge for the number one position,” said Khune on <a href="https://twitter.com/SSFootball/status/1772700631876198507?s=20" target="_blank">SuperSport Football.</a>“But I have to give credit to the goalkeeping department, especially to Bruce Bvuma who has been doing tremendously well for the club.“He has kept seven clean sheets in eight matches," added the veteran goalkeeper."So, I wish him the best. He must just keep on doing what he has been doing which helps the club to get back to greater heights.”

WHAT KHUNE SAID

Former Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral is, however, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/bvuma-petersen-be-warned-khune-can-reclaim-his-place-ex-kaizer-chiefs-coach-ertugral-adamant-veteran-keeper-special-talented/bltd87f96b4e2c3704d" target="_blank">not ruling Khune from reinventing himself, describing the custodian dian as "special."</a>With Bvuma enjoying some rich vein of form, it could be difficult for Khune to reclaim the Amakhosi number one jersey. Bvuma is rising after taking over from Khune and is also back in the Bafana Bafana squad, replacing Veli Mothwa.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs are left with 10 Premier Soccer League games before the season ends and Khune will be trying to have a run in those games. The Soweto giants visit Cape Town City on March 30 as they resume the bid to end the season in the top two.
