    WHAT HAPPENED?

Thabiso Monyane came through the ranks at Orlando Pirates and represented the senior team for a couple of years.

However, he was eventually released after his contract expired, since the technical team felt he was surplus to requirements.

Kaizer Chiefs gave him a chance alongside Paseka Mako who was also let go by the Sea Robbers.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Since joining Amakhosi, the 25-year-old has played all three Premier Soccer League matches the Glamour Boys have played.

The most recent was on Tuesday night in a 1-0 win over Richards Bay at the FNB Stadium, where he delivered both defensively and in attack.

With Khuliso Mudau pushing for a move out of Mamelodi Sundowns, which has seen him out of action, while Thapelo Morena is still nursing an injury, ex-Chiefs player Mokete Tsotetsi believes Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos should consider Monyane.

South Africa will be in action in the next couple of weeks as they chase the 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket.

    WHAT TSOTETSI SAID

"He did not have a good season last season [at Pirates] and he has come to Chiefs looking fit, and I think he has come at the right time," he said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

"He is doing well in the first few matches for Chiefs, and you can see that he is gaining confidence.

"With Khuliso Mudau not playing and Thapelo Morena out injured and Van Rooyen only making his first appearance of the season recently, Monyane stands a good chance of being the first choice right back in the upcoming Bafana Bafana squad," Tsotetsi added.

"You can see his confidence is growing game by game. He is doing well with the game time he is getting. I know coach Broos is a coach who gives players who are doing well a chance.

"So, I think he will be considered for the national team, and it will be good for him," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

A massive test for Monyane will be on August 27 when Chiefs play defending Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Regardless of the result, with his form, Broos might consider having Monyane in his team; however, at Chiefs, the likes of Reeve Frosler and Dillon Solomons have a real battle to get playing time.
