  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Kane has been one of the most consistent strikers in Europe in the last decade having broken multiple scoring records in England and Germany. He has won several individual awards for his performances over the years, but he has yet to win a major trophy for club and country. He switched to Bayern from Tottenham in the summer of 2023 in a bid to win titles, but his first season ended in disappointment as the Bavarian club went trophy-less.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Ballon d'Or is widely regarded as the pinnacle of individual awards in football and the England captain revealed he remains hopeful of winning the prestigious gong one day. This season, Kane has scored 21 goals in as many appearances and his club enjoy a healthy four-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table, while they are also alive in the Champions League and on course to seal a berth in the knockout stage.

  • WHAT KANE SAID

Speaking to France Football, the 31-year-old said of Ballon d'Or glory: "Of course I'm thinking about it! And, why not say, I believe in it. I feel like my performances make me a credible candidate. I'm continuing to progress, I'm playing in teams, whether Bayern or England, that are natural contenders for big titles.

"So, with my individual performances and a major team trophy like the Champions League, why couldn't I believe in my chances? I've dreamed of the Ballon d'Or since I was a kid, and even more so with the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo era that has given an even bigger prestige to this award. Who knows if in 2025 we won't see each other again for another interview?"
