Mamelodi are currently leading the Premier Soccer League table in a season they have been unusually unpredictable.
From bowing out of the Carling Knockout to running riot against Remo Stars away in the CAF Champions League, the Brazilians have left their opponents not knowing what to expect.
Defender Grant Kekana, who recently returned from injury, shares his thoughts about what he thinks is missing at Masandawana.

“The Champions League has been a bit of an Achilles’ heel for us, considering that usually we do so well to get into a particular stage, and when we are supposed to take it into the next, we fall short,” said Kekana as per Sowetan Live.
“But I don’t think we are discouraged. It is just building even more character within the group, knowing that we are capable of reaching that stage. Now it is about us going all the way. I think the desire and hunger are still there.
“As a team, this is the one trophy we want, considering how we’ve done in the league. The Champions League title is what is missing in this group.”
AFPThe eluding crown
Mamelodi Sundowns continue to wrestle with their Champions League frustrations, as the continental crown remains out of reach since they last won it in 2026.
Last season’s heartbreak of losing the final to Egyptian side Pyramids FC only deepened the sense of unfinished business for the Tswane giants.
Despite their domestic dominance amid eight straight Premier Soccer League titles, turning that success into African glory has become a big challenge for the Brazilians.

Despite failing to win the MTN8 and Carling Knockout, Sundowns still have a chance to finish the season with a treble as there is the PSL title, CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup to compete for.
For now, their attention is on Sunday's Champions League second preliminary round, second leg match against Remo Stars, and they lead 5-1 from the away leg.
