    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs lifted the Cufa Cup in October after beating Marumo Gallants on penalties.

They then proceeded to clinch the Home of Legends Cup in November following victory over Mamelodi Sundowns.

The two tournaments are unofficial and attracted fans mocking the Soweto giants for channelling their energy into 'friendly trophies' which has seen defender Given Msimango respond.

    WHAT MSIMANGO SAID

“Of course, those two cups that we’ve played, that we’ve won, brings about fresh of confidence within the guys, you know, especially the guys that are not playing as regularly as the others,” said Msimango as per iDiski Times.

“It gives them that boost to say you know what we are still here to show the coach that we also deserve to be picked. And I think from those cups we draw a lot of confidence from them because it is against professional teams that are there to compete as well.

“And I feel like, you know, our performances there, really are helping us a lot to see where we are as professionals," added the former TS Galaxy defender.

“You know, the game time that we didn’t get in the league phase and we’re getting in those cup games really helps a lot. And I’m sure maybe you may see a lot of rotations from the coach, giving players who did well in the cup, you know in the league game.

“And yeah, everyone will see for themselves that the quality within the team is still there.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After failing to qualify for the MTN8, Chiefs failed to reach the final of the Carling Knockout after being thrashed 4-0 by Sundowns in the quarterfinals.

That leaves them with only the Premier Soccer League title and the Nedbank Cup to play for a major, recognised trophy this season.

With Chiefs in sixth of the log and 11 points off league leaders Orlando Pirates, the league title is already looking unlikely, meaning that if Amakhosi are to break their trophy drought before it stretches to a decade, they will need to focus on the Nedbank Cup competition in the new year.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

After winning the midweek league game against Richards Bay, Chiefs move on to host Royal AM at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

It is a match they will be hoping to record victory and start putting in a run of victories to both cultivate a winning mentality and try to put some pressure on the unbeaten league leaders, who have yet to drop a single point, Orlando Pirates.
