    Broos ignores Links again

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos continues to overlook Denmark-based utility star Gift Links.

After being excluded from the upcoming international friendly matches against Panama, the Aarhus GF man's chances of going to the 2026 FIFA World Cup appear very slim.

The player from Rustenburg has managed to score five goals while providing 29 assists in all competitions for AGF.

Links reacts to Broos' stance on him

“All I can do is play as much as possible here and help my team,” Links said, as per iDiski Times.

“That’s the most important thing. I’m not going to go ahead and ask, 'Why am I not being drafted?' That’s not up to me.

“The most important thing is that I continue to work hard and whatever happens, happens. That’s my mentality.”

    AGF coach not understanding Broos

The AGF coach, Jakob Poulsen, is trying to understand why Broos has not made Links part of his plans despite his top performances in Denmark.

“I can’t understand [why he is overlooked by Broos]; I don’t know the South African national team that well," Poulsen said.

"But with the level he has shown over a really long period, I would be very surprised if they have three players who are better than him in that position.”

    Broos 'disrespectful' to Links

While announcing his squad for the international friendly match against Zambia in November 2025, Broos bluntly stated that Links “is not at the level of the national team.”

That triggered a response from the player's agent, Paul Mitchell.

“Obviously, it was very disappointing, the comments that he made," Mitchell told Soccer Laduma.

"Gift couldn’t understand it because it’s not about whether we think that Gift should be in the national team; that’s not what this is about, even though he is playing at the top of his game in a higher-level league than the PSL, and that’s a fact.

“It’s not about whether he or we think he should be in the squad; the bottom line is that he has not been in any of the squads since Broos’ first-ever squad against Zimbabwe and Ghana, even though he got injured against Zimbabwe.

“We believe, or we have heard, that it was suggested at that time that he wasn’t injured, but that’s also incorrect because he went back to Denmark, and he was out for four months, and he shouldn’t have really travelled," added the top agent.

“The bottom line is that Gift has not been in but is playing extremely well, has been selected for Team of the Week consistently, is getting big accolades from the Danish press, and his team [AGF] are currently in the top three of the Superliga, one point off the top, and Gift has been outstanding for the club.

“The fact remains that he has not once complained, gone to the media or spoken out. He’s gotten his head down like all players should do, and he’s worked, and that’s why he was flabbergasted by the comments. He’s upset, and naturally so because the comments were disrespectful.”
