    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns player John Tlale has expressed concerns about Orlando Pirates ahead of the Caf Champions League group stages.

The Jose Riveiro-led side has been impressive since the start of the season in the PSL - having won their first six matches.

Bucs have also progressed to the Champions League group stages. However, Tlale feels Pirates will not find it easy to compete in the league and the continent simultaneously.

    WHAT WAS SAID

"This is going to be an interesting season compared to the past one. It's boring to see [Mamelodi] Sundowns winning the league with five games remaining," John Tlale told Kick-Off.

"At least this season, Pirates will push to the limit. Pirates have depth and young boys who are performing well.

"Pirates' performance makes the league interesting. Wherever they are playing nowadays, the supporters come in numbers, which is a sign that the team is doing well,'' explained the former Bucs goalie.,''

"But I think it's going to be difficult for Pirates to balance things because of the Champions League. Every week you play about three games,'' he added.

"So, the Champions League might hurt the Orlando Pirates' chances of doing well in the domestic league."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pirates remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier Soccer League this season so far after beating TS Galaxy 2-0 on Tuesday to make it six wins in a row.

Bucs last won a league title in the 2011-12 campaign. On the other hand, they last appeared in the Caf Champions League final in 2013.

Moreover, the Buccaneers were eliminated from this year's Carling Knockout. They will now compete in the league, Caf-Inter-club, and in the Nedbank Cup.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PIRATES?

Pirates look determined to stop the Sundowns league's dominance this season, and they will aim to keep their winning momentum when they host Richards Bay on Tuesday, November 5.

It will be interesting to see if the Sea Robbers will keep their consistency in the PSL while simultaneously doing Caf Champions League duties.
