TS Galaxy had hoped to get their first win against the in-form Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer game that was staged at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
The Buccaneers did not have to wait long for a goal; a good run by Relebohile Mofokeng in the 16th minute ended with the defenders failing to clear the danger, and it eventually fell to Thalente Mbatha.
The 24-year-old's shot looked easy to save but goalkeeper Eliezer Tape somehow missed the ball to hand the league leaders an easy goal.
In the second minute of the added time, Galaxy felt they should have been awarded a penalty after Deon Hotto brought down their player in the danger zone but the referee waved play-on amid protests by the hosts.
Mofokeng's moment of magic in the 72nd minute caught the goalkeeper out of position as the ball found the back of the net to make it 2-0 in favour of Pirates. It got worse for the Rockets after Kamogelo Sebelebele was sent off for a second bookable offense.
Despite the many chances created, neither side could get another goal.
Pirates have now won their opening six league games this season, equalling the club's best-ever winning start to a campaign in PSL history - also six in the 2002/03 campaign, when they went on to win the crown.
