The Premier Soccer League takes a break this weekend as four teams take part in the Nedbank Cup semi-final scheduled for Sunday.

Defending champions Orlando Pirates play Marumo Gallants at the Orlando Stadium, hoping to avenge the 2-0 loss suffered in a league meeting.

Last season's finalists Mamelodi Sundowns will then host trophy-hungry Chiefs at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs are hoping to end their trophy drought that has lasted a decade.

However, Sundowns and Pirates have been dominating the local football scene for a couple of seasons.

Last season, the duo reached the final of the Nedbank Cup, with the Soweto giants claiming a narrow 2-1 win.

Masandawana legend Teko Modise is anticipating a repeat of the same, as opposed to a potential Soweto derby between Chiefs and Pirates.

    WHAT MODISE SAID

“I would like to see the repeat of last season’s Nedbank Cup final with Pirates and Sundowns because that’s one of the fixtures as well that has become the epitome of South African football,” he said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“We have both teams competing in CAF semi-finals, you know being in an advantage position as they are.

“And these are big teams right now, the best teams right now in South Africa. So, I want to see them in the final again. I think that’s the blockbuster fixture that every fan will be excited to see.

“And also there’s equally good players on both sides I think they can cancel each other and I think they can give us an exceptional final like they did last season," Modise concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs have a massive chance of going all the way since Sundowns and Pirates are also in the race for the Caf Champions League and the Premier Soccer League.

However, they need that belief and resilience to win the annual competition.
