    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Michael Nkambule has questioned why Mamelodi Sundowns let Bafana Bafana forward Thembinkosi Lorch leave on a permanent deal to Wydad AC.

Nkambule has pointed out that the Tshwane giants already have a problem that could have been solved by keeping the former Orlando Pirates star.

He also said the possibility of losing Lucas Ribeiro makes it even more questionable why Lorch was let go.

    WHAT NKAMBULE SAID

"You can see that Ribeiro will leave. You have a player, Lorch; you loaned him out, and he was performing. Why didn't Sundowns keep Lorch?" Nkambule questioned on Junior Khanye TV YouTube Channel.

"They should have kept Lorch and given him a chance if we're being honest. He proved himself at the Club World Cup; everybody was happy, saying, 'We want to see him in the Bafana squad'," he added.

"Sundowns should have taken the advantage, because he's their player, knowing they'll lose a player like Ribeiro. They should have taken Lorch. Now they have creative problems. I saw the coach wants to come with his own players. If the team was winning, why change things?"

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After initially serving Wydad AC on a loan deal, Lorch has been awarded a permanent deal by the Moroccan heavyweights. The experienced forward arrived at the former African champions when they were coached by Rhulani Mokwena.

Although he arrived in Casablanca after struggling for game time at Masandawana, he turned out to be one of the key players for the North African outfit.

At the FIFA Club World Cup in June, he was one of the standout players for his club and also scored against Juventus.

WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS AND LORCH?

Currently, Sundowns are engaged in a transfer saga with Lucas Ribeiro, who is eager to leave. Should the forward leave the Brazilians, it means there will be a gap to be left in the attacking department, and it is for this reason that Nkambule wanted Lorch retained.

For Lorch, however, the dream is to remain as impressive as possible in order to keep his place in the club's starting XI and boost his chances of taking part in Bafana's future assignments.
